Fear and Loathing in the State of Hawaii - Sharks Get a Bad Rap

The State of Hawaii is sadly experiencing an anti-shark movement. Shark Tour operators on the Northshore of Oahu fear they will be shut down as a consequence of some knee-jerk reactions to misinformation about sharks and tour activities.

Hawaii Shark Encounters operates 3 miles off shore of Haleiwa, on the North shore of Oahu, where people of all ages have a chance to observe sharks in natural habitat from the safety of a cage. HSE raises public awareness about the plight of our endangered sharks in the world's oceans. They also provide data for much needed shark research and conservation issues.

A group of anti-shark activists in the state of Hawaii is using fear tactics and paranoia to take their case to the public. Their agenda is to shut down existing shark watching tours. The activists pander to the deeply rooted fear of sharks and use stereotypes and unfounded assumptions to make their case. The truth is, they are ignoring real science, a balanced consideration of facts or really anything rational.

Shutting Hawaii Shark Encounters down through a state-wide ban would be a devastating blow to shark conservation in the state and in the USA.

Folks, we all know JAWS was just a movie. It wasn't real. Sharks aren't as dangerous as they are made out to be and are in fact, quite shy and avoid humans.

Please read through this site. It will serve as a venue to present the Facts. Thank you for your time and action to stop this ill-begotten movement in its tracks.
